PART 2

Nobody moved.

Richard slowly walked down the aisle.

Evelyn stared at him as if she’d seen a ghost.

“You weren’t supposed to be here,” she whispered.

Richard stopped beside Adrian.

“I wasn’t supposed to be anywhere,” he replied.

The room fell silent.

He opened the folder.

“For eight months, someone has been transferring company money into private accounts.”

Evelyn shook her head.

“Richard, you’re confused.”

“No.”

He handed the folder to Adrian.

“I’ve been pretending to be too weak to notice.”

Adrian opened the first page.

Then the second.

His face changed.

“These transfers…”

Richard nodded.

“They were authorized using my old digital signature.”

Evelyn stepped backward.

“That proves nothing.”

I stepped forward.

“It proves enough to start asking questions.”

She looked at me.

“You.”

I held up my phone.

“The camera recording from the bridal suite is already backed up.”

Her face went pale.

“You recorded me?”

“You destroyed my mother’s dress on camera.”

Tessa handed the hotel manager another copy.

The manager confirmed the security footage showed Evelyn entering the bridal suite at exactly the same time.

But that wasn’t the biggest surprise.

I turned to Adrian.

“Open the last page.”

He did.

His eyes widened.

“What is this?”

I pointed to a transaction.

“The money wasn’t going to a random account.”

Richard nodded.

“It was going to a company owned by Evelyn’s brother.”

The chapel erupted in whispers.

Evelyn finally broke.

“You don’t understand!”

Richard looked at her.

“Then explain it.”

She couldn’t.

For years, she had convinced everyone that she controlled the family because she was protecting them.

But the documents showed something different.

She had been secretly moving company money to cover debts her brother had accumulated.

When Richard discovered it, she tried to force Adrian into signing the amended trust documents.

If Adrian signed, she would gain control.

If I walked away from the wedding, she believed Adrian would be too emotional to question anything.

And destroying my mother’s dress was supposed to make me disappear.

Instead, it brought everything into the open.

Evelyn looked at Adrian.

“After everything I’ve done for you…”

Adrian interrupted her.

“You destroyed the woman I love because you wanted my signature.”

She looked at me.

“You think you’ve won?”

I shook my head.

“No.”

I looked at Richard.

“She lost the moment she underestimated why I was investigating the company.”

Richard smiled.

Then he turned to the guests.

“There will be no wedding today.”

Everyone gasped.

I looked at Adrian.

For one terrible second, I thought he was ending everything.

Then he reached into his pocket.

He pulled out my mother’s tiny blue thread from the backup dress.

I’d forgotten it was there.

He smiled.

“I don’t need a perfect dress.”

He took my hand.

“I just need the woman who was brave enough to stand here when everyone expected her to run.”

Richard stepped forward.

“Then finish the ceremony.”

And so we did.

Not because Evelyn had failed.

Not because the family needed to save face.

But because, for the first time, Adrian and I were choosing each other without secrets, without pressure, and without fear.

As we walked out of the chapel, Tessa whispered:

“Claire, what are you going to do about the ruined dress?”

I smiled.

“I’m keeping it.”

“Why?”

“Because someday, when someone asks me how I survived my wedding day…”

I looked back at the chapel.

“I’ll have proof that the dress wasn’t the thing that mattered.”

And that was the day my mother-in-law tried to destroy my wedding… and accidentally gave me the evidence that saved my husband’s family.
